Golfing Breaks

For some time now we have been offering tailor-made holidays for golfers. Mike has considerable experience of arranging golfing breaks for groups of all sizes, from single couples to parties of up to 14. He enjoys a close relationship with the local golf clubs and can negotiate discounted package deals to suit all.

Packages typically include dinner bed and breakfast, lunch at the golf courses, green fees, and even buggy hire where necessary.

Within a 20 mile drive of The Buck Inn, six challenging golf courses offer variety to golfers of all ages and handicaps. Visitors are welcome at the 18 hole courses of Bedale, Catterick, Richmond, Romanby and Ripon, and at the picturesque 9 hole course at Masham.

Fishing Breaks

The Buck Inn has teamed up with local anglers to acquire exclusive access to a beautiful mile and a half stretch the River Ure which is a short drive from The Buck Inn. We will happily arrange day passes for guests to enjoy a day's Fly Fishing on the river, which is kept well-stocked with Brown Trout with an average size one and half pounds but fish weighing two pounds and over are not uncommon. Grayling are also in abundance. There is a 4 rod limit for guests on the beat, so please tell us in advance. A day ticket costs £15 and a weekly ticket is available for £60.

If you fancy a change of scene, or when river conditions make it necessary, day passes can be bought at Leighton Reservoir, West Tanfield, and Thornton Steward Reservoir which are just a short drive away.

Racing Breaks

The race-courses at Thirsk, Ripon, and Catterick are easily accessible from The Buck Inn. Whether your preference is over the sticks or on the flat, the local courses have much to offer the race goer. The gallops and stables at Middleham have been home to some of the nation's finest trainers, jockeys and horses and is a mere 20 minutes away. Each May we sponsor a race at Thirsk race course, for which full hospitality and a coach are provided for a modest fee. Details of the next race day will be posted on the events page.
